Yvonne Montoya is a 2021 Southwest Folk Alliance PlainView Fellow. She will conduct embodied ethnographic research in Agua Prieta, Sonora, México where she will study Sonora Bronco, a genre of Folklórico Mexicano with Maestro Juan Luis Angeles Gónzalez founding director of Ballet Folklórico Angeles de Agua Prieta.
Yvonne will work with Agua Prieta-based digital artist Ammi Robles to document the research and choreographic exchange.
Yvonne will be accompanied by the cast of Stories from Home on this residency.

Yvonne Montoya was a Post-Graduate Fellow in Dance at Arizona State University where she founded and organized the inaugural Dance in the Desert: A Gathering of Latinx Dancemakers. While at ASU she incubated new work, wrote the article Who Takes Center Stage?: Xicana Epistemologies in Contemporary Dance that was published in El Mundo Zurdo 7 in 2019, and was mentored by Liz Lerman.
